Dog Sledding in Kiruna, Lapland
Snowdog is a unique place where we try and ensure you have a fun filled and captivating dog sledding experience with us and our small kennel of Husky Sled Dogs. Here we provide you with cozy, arctic style clothing and prepare you for the biting cold outside. Once you are dressed up with the special overalls, we drive you to our secluded kennel in the Poikkijärvi Woods.
We are located only 15 minutes drive outside Kiruna, a little away from most of the crowded tourist areas. However, we are also very close to The Great Torne River and the World Famous Ice Hotel at Jukkasjärvi.
Dog Sledding in Lapland....has never been this much fun
Once you arrive at our husky kennel, myself and/or one of our experienced guides will show you around the kennel and introduce you to some of the Sled Dogs. We have a mixture of Siberian and Alaskan Huskies, some with brown eyes and some with dazzling blue. Regardless of their origin, they are all very friendly and eager to meet you, as you will discover! Initially, we will take time and explain a little about their background and be happy to answer any questions you may have about the sport of Dog Mushing.
Preparing you and the Sled Dogs
After a short important training session by our expert guides we will begin to prepare your dog teams for the trip. This is high octane, very noisy and very exciting for everyone, including most of all the Sled Dogs! You will be helping to prepare your team and get ready for a thrilling journey with the huskies. During the trip, you are fully responsible for looking after your new husky friends and in return they will give you an amazing experience and display of raw k9 husky power! We will be on hand to help if you get into a tricky situation, so don't worry about a thing, just enjoy.
Your Lapland Dog Sledding Adventure
During your Dog Sledding tour, we will take you through shiny silken snowfields, across expansive outstretched frozen swamps, rivers, lakes and into ethereal snow-covered forests. We will stop on a few occasions to let you change drivers and take some photographs.
All of our guides are well versed at capturing a nice picture and they will wherever possible try to take a few excellent images, which you can have free of charge to remember your dog sledding adventure in Lapland. Sometimes we will make short video clips and upload them when we have time. Either way, you will receive some memorable snaps of your time with the husky sled dogs. However please note that dog sledding, weather and tour experiences can be somewhat unpredictable at times and it’s sometimes not possible to catch the pictures we would like to, and sometimes it's just not possible, but we try!
Back at the Sled Dog Camp
When we arrive back at our Husky Camp, you can thank your husky team by giving them a tasty chunk of RAW meat, which they love. Then you can take some pictures in and around our traditional Igloo which will be built as soon as we have enough snow. Meanwhile in our classical fire hut we will be preparing you some traditional Fika and a superbly tasty cake hand made by Santa Claus himself! If we have time left before departure, you are free to take more pictures of the dogs, or just play around our camp for a while.
